In the issue with which we are dealing, the Model Provisions for National Laws on the Protection of Expressions of Folklore against Illicit Exploitation and other Prejudicial Actions, prepared jointly by UNESCO and WIPO in 1985, certainly reflect elements and features of indigenous peoples' cultural identity better than other instruments and should therefore be given special attention by legislators from the countries most involved in the defence of the indigenous heritage.
