With the entry into force of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the adoption by the General Assembly of the Agreement relating to the implementation of Part XI of the Convention in 1994 (resolution 48/263), the programme of activities in the biennium is aimed at the efficient transition to the post-entry-into-force phase, by combining the responsibilities entrusted to the Secretary-General upon the adoption of the Convention and the functions consequent upon the entry into force of the Convention.
