∙ In keeping with the importance attached by the Commission on Sustainable Development to the study of mountain eco-cultural systems, the organization and its members from Kyrgyzstan brought out a special issue (July-December 1998) on Kyrgyzstan, highlighting the unique aspects of this newly independent Central Asian republic and problems of its socio-economic transition. The three-day national seminar cum exhibition on the theme “Ethno-cultural heritage of Gujjars” was organized at Jammu University from 8 to 10 May 1999, in collaboration with the National Museum of Mankind and the Gujjar Charitable Trust.
