In response to the urgent need for coordinated action at the subregional level to combat the proliferation and illegal circulation of small arms and light weapons, the Central African civil society organizations members of the International Action Network on Small Arms, which had long acted alone in isolation without regional coordination, in October 2010 at Libreville, Gabon, joined with other actors in Africa to establish the Central African Action Network on Small Arms with a view to contributing to human security in the Central African subregion.
