At the 225th meeting, the Permanent Representative of Cuba deplored the fact that the President of the Cuban National Assembly had been prevented from participating in the second World Conference of Speakers of Parliament convened by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) at United Nations Headquarters from 7 to 9 September 2005. He explained that the President of the National Assembly had been denied a visa by the host authorities on the grounds that his entry would be detrimental to the interest of the United States pursuant to section 212 (f) of the host country's Immigration and Nationality Act.
