acontecimiento: el sol del trópico cae a plomo sobre sus cabezas y se defienden de él como pueden, con pañuelos de colores y rústicos sombreros de palma: mezcladas con ellos, las hembras se abanican con femíneos gestos, coquetas siempre a pesar del polvo, la suciedad y las ya raídas prendas de descanso: compañeros responsables encauzan la circulación del gentío hacia los últimos espacios huecos y camaradas voluntarios de ambos sexos revisan cuidadosamente el podio de la plataforma revestida de colgaduras y alfombras en donde, según toda probabilidad, llegada la hora, surgirá la dirección colectiva te interrumpirás unos segundos a fin de completar el decorado: sofás, mecedoras, hamacas, un piano de cola para la hiña música, tiestos con helechos, canastas de fruta, ramilletes de flores?: el rostro ovalado de alguna bisabuela imperativa, un criollito que ahuyenta las moscas con una obsequiosa penca de yarey?: descripciones costumbristas de la época de Cecilia Valdés de las que oportunamente te dispensan los acordes risueños, zumbones de una burlesca, pegadiza marcha: mientras la próvida disposición del director de escena centrará la atención del dignificado respetable en la hilera de tronos vacíos que, erguidos sobre el adamascado pedestal y protegidos del sol por un airoso palio, aguardan también a las claras la presencia soberana que, como el viril en medio de los oros de la custodia, les conferirá de golpe su razón de ser y les colmará del augusto poder de su mágico esplendor radiante: litúrgico símbolo cuya existencia descabalga y fulmina, avasalla e impone: dotado quizá de almohadillas de raso cuyos bordados primores encubren a la doliente masa el secreto de una múltiple oquedad circular bajo la cual, al abrigo de los costados del solio, acechan en ciudadanos en el apogeo y la gloria de su inalienable, triunfal libertad: sociedad fraternal sin grados ni jerarquías, unificada para siempre gracias a la consciente posesión por sus miembros de ese rostro inferior y común, cuyo único, avizorante ojo desdeñosamente contempla los risibles, grotescos esfuerzos de quien neciamente se obstina en distinguirse, encumbrarse, mandar: himnos, baladas, canciones se suceden con brío en los altavoces para calmar la impaciencia del gentío o disponer quizás el camino a la enjundiosa, biconvexa aparición: la irrupción simultánea de docena y pico de rostros del modesto comité directivo amparados en el anonimato de su perfecta y ejemplar igualdad: ni pilotos, capitanes ni guías: a un metro de distancia uno de otro conforme a las normas de una sabia disciplina escénica, ofrendando verosímilmente en cuclillas a la alegre asamblea, por la holgada portilla de los espaldares, aquellas partes carirredondas, joviales, que algunos fotógrafos naturalistas de comienzos de siglo solían captar, para goce y regalo de entendidos, en el acto de emular un grupo festivo con los mofletes rubicundos de Eolo: tañendo con arte su variada panoplia de instrumentos de viento: flautas y pífanos, caramillos, oboes, clarinetes, saxófonos: dóciles a la batuta del invisible autor de la instantánea que, como tú, observa arrobado: rabel, tafanario, posas, asentaderas prodigiosamente investidos de suprema, ejecutiva potestad: tratando en vano de asociar también grupas y posaderas con las letras del alfabeto latino que sibilinamente identifican a los mano por la faz para borrar las huellas de una sonrisa: sumergiéndola luego en la correspondiente jofaina bajo la mirada aprobadora del público que durante la obligada pausa del maniluvio habrá tomado posesión del estrado con sencilla espontaneidad: el bisabuelo Agustín y su esposa, el señorito, las niñas, un grupo de parientes dignos y pobres, los esclavos domésticos, una agitada nube de a su firme y unitario emblema: captado de preferencia en el instante grandioso de la oblación de su vernal primicia poética, con los carrillos tensos por el esfuerzo y una grave, preclara fisionomía de modesta y señorial dignidad: o silbando con hilaridad contagiosa la leve y aflautada melodía, prolepsis de la jocunda, irreprimible explosión: instantánea feliz divulgada igualmente en las emisiones de sellos de nuestra ociosa república y atesorada con mimo por los filatelistas amantes de la rareza y singularidad: por no mencionar ahora los cromos y naipes, medallas, billetes de banco, gadgets, cubiertas de disco: ubicua profusión de rostros anónimos, descarados, acéfalos, sobre cuya identificación azarosa se funda un original sistema de lotería y apuestas mediante el que nuestros indolentes ciudadanos se enriquecen y medran sin trabajar: con sólo establecer un nexo de unión entre la beatífica faz expuesta y la letra del alfabeto que abrevia el miembro selecto de la dirección: el vencedor recibe un montón de dinero y, si reúne las adecuadas aptitudes físicas, será promovido a su vez a la efímera dignidad de líder y a las grandezas y servidumbres de la pública prestación
