In 2003, the United Nations Mine Action Coordination Centre in DRC (UNMACC) was formally appointed to organize and monitor the quality of mine clearance operations within the country. The year 2008 saw the creation of a National Focal Point on Mine Action (PFNLAM) for DRC: bringing together representatives of all ministries and State public services involved in mine action, and consisting of a plenary body, a coordination office and seven specialized units, this inter-ministerial body is responsible for managing, coordinating and regulating action on anti-personnel mines and explosive remnants of war.
