In conclusion, the challenges contained in this field of activity in the countries of the region indicate a need for the adoption by more countries of new household survey programmes, both regular and periodic, as well as for the institutional strengthening of statistical offices; the improvement of the quality, timeliness and coverage of data; and the review and eventual thematic redesign of questionnaires to incorporate a number of emerging themes that are not traditionally covered in surveys, such as measurement of the efficiency of social programmes focusing on the deterioration of employment and wages, as well as other themes that are of great interest for the programming and evaluation of policies to promote economic growth and social equity.

En síntesis, los desafíos en este ámbito que enfrentan los países de la región indican una necesidad de que más países adopten nuevos programas de encuestas de hogares, regulares y periódicos, así como de que se proceda al fortalecimiento institucional de las oficinas de estadística; el mejoramiento de la calidad, oportunidad y cobertura de los datos y el examen y eventual rediseño temático de los cuestionarios, a efectos de incorporar algunos temas emergentes tradicionalmente no cubiertos por las encuestas, como son por ejemplo la medición de la eficacia de los programas sociales focalizados o la degradación del empleo y el salario, así como otros temas de gran interés para la programación y evaluación de las políticas que se articulan para promover el crecimiento económico y la equidad social.
