Long story short: in the 1920s a dog of the Akita-breed named Hachiko spent his days waiting at the Shibuya station for his master to get back from work. One day the master did not return, because he had died at work of a sudden seizure. Hachiko was not bothered about this detail, but instead he came to the same spot to wait for his master each day for nine years, until he died.
