”Holokaustin uhrien muiston kunnioittamisen tehtävänä on syövyttää nuorempien sukupolvien mieliin näiden traagisten tapahtumien opetus ja varmistaa, että meistä jokainen on valppaana ja auttaa ehkäisemään suvaitsemattomuudesta kumpuavia ilmiöitä ja vihan lietsontaa, joka voi johtaa jopa kansanmurhiin”, Euroopan neuvoston ministerikomitean puheenjohtaja ja Suomen ulkoministeri Timo Soini totesi lausunnossaan, jonka hän antoi juutalaisvainojen ja muiden kansanvainojen uhrien muistopäivänä eli vainojen uhrien muistopäivänä. Päivän (27.1.) tarkoituksena on myös ehkäistä rikoksia ihmisyyttä vastaan.
